Applying to Graduate Studies




We are currently accepting applications for 2012 to all graduate programs. 

To submit a complete application package please review the steps outlined below. 

How To Apply

  1. Interested applicants should begin by reviewing a program's admission requirements.  To access this information, visit the 'Our Programs' section of our website, click on a program title, and select 'Requirements'.  NOTE:  Pre-assessment services are not available.  Applicant qualifications will be assessed once a formal application package has been submitted to a graduate program.
  2. If you satisfy the program's minimum admission requirements, the next step is to review the program's 'How To Apply' section to download the program's application requirements.
  3. Applications to graduate studies and all required supporting documentation are to be submitted in hard copy/paper format.

Commonly Asked Questions

IS THERE AN APPLICATION FEE?

Applicants to a graduate program must submit a non-refundable application fee of fifty Canadian dollars $50 CAD. Your application package will not be processed until the application fee has been received.

WHAT START TERM CAN I APPLY TO?

Graduate Students applying for the first time normally apply for a Fall (September) start term.  However, in some academic units, students are permitted to apply to begin their studies in the Winter (January) or Spring (May) terms.  Click here to view a complete list of programs and available academic start terms.

WHAT IS THE SUGGESTED DATE BY WHICH TO APPLY?

Although applications are received on a continual basis, we recommend that interested applicants submit a complete application package by the following dates:

  • For a Fall start term:  February 1
  • For a Winter start term:  September 30
  • For a Spring start term:  January 31

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I SUBMIT MY APPLICATION PACKAGE?

Once a Graduate Studies Application Form and Fee Payment has been received the application will be processed. 

Applications will be processed in the order they are received. 

An acknowledgement letter will be mailed to the address indicated on your application form.  Please await the arrival of your acknowledgement letter as a formal indication that your application form and fee payment have been received.

The acknowledgement letter will contain the information required to access both your Lakehead University online myInfo application account and Lakehead University myEmail account. 

Once you receive the acknowledgement letter, please access both your myInfo and myEmail accounts for updated information regarding your graduate studies application

Once you have logged into myInfo, please choose the 'For Applicants' link.  This link will open a window that allows you to view your personal applicant profile.  Selecting 'My Application Status' will enable you to view your current application status.  You can also review a list of your documents that have been received and those that are still outstanding by visiting the myDocuments section of your profile.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY ADMISSION DECISION?

Once processed, your application will be forwarded to the appropriate academic department for review.  Once an admission recommendation has been received from the academic department and approved by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, your myInfo account will be updated immediately and a formal letter indicating the final admission decision will be mailed to the address indicated on your application.  There is no set date by which offers will be made as each academic unit will work within their own timeframe, and the admission process is an ongoing process.  Please review your myInfo application profile on a regular basis for updated information regarding your graduate studies application.

WILL I BE CONSIDERED FOR CONDITIONAL ADMISSION?

Applicants may be considered for conditional admission, within the University's Graduate Studies Admission Regulations and upon approval from the academic department.  Please submit a formal and complete application package as outlined above.
